In The Sentinel: Square Cafe Project Takes Shape Downtown

We’re proud to see the Square Cafe project featured in The Sentinel’s Lewistown Progress 2026 section, published October 28, 2026. Reporter Brian Carson’s story, “Square Cafe project takes shape downtown,” walks through where the work stands at 13 and 15 East Market Street.

Highlights from the article

• 13 East Market Street is nearly finished. Most of the renovation inside the former Wilson’s Gift and Jewelry building is complete, including new windows overlooking Monument Square and the leaded glass and woodwork our crews uncovered and restored.
• The new kitchen building is underway. Crews have shifted to 15 East Market Street, where the foundation is in for the new kitchen, bakery and outdoor patio that will connect to the restored storefront.
• On schedule. The goal is to get the new building under roof before cold weather, with construction wrapping up between mid-December and the end of the year. As Mike Buffington told The Sentinel, “I would say it’s going as planned.”
• Opening in early 2027. Square Cafe owner Kayla Zook plans to finish the holiday season at 10 West Market Street before moving the business to its new home on the Square in early 2027.
